Project Overview

We were asked by Red Light Management to work directly with GRiZ to produce, direct, and edit the Rainbow Brain album movie—a 55-minute visual experience that served as the centerpiece of the album’s rollout. From initial concept through final export, I led the entire video production process, building a psychedelic, narrative-driven world that visually echoed the themes and energy of the music.

Scope of Work

Over four fast-paced shoot days at Mission Ballroom, I directed a large team of creatives while coordinating tightly with production teams to transform the venue with a new set each day. The album movie featured five guest artists woven seamlessly in, each adding their own energy to the project. Through careful planning and bold creative direction, we delivered a high-impact film that fused live performance, narrative, and immersive visuals into a singular, genre-bending experience.

Final Outcome

Released during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rainbow Brain album movie premiered as a livestream event, offering fans a shared, immersive experience at a time when live music was largely on pause. The film garnered over 3 million views across platforms, with widespread acclaim from both fans and media. Publications praised its bold visual direction and seamless fusion of music and storytelling, while fans embraced it as a defining moment in GRiZ’s career. The project not only amplified the album’s release—it helped shape a cultural moment, elevating the live show experience and setting a new bar for immersive visual albums.
